(from internet searches) and have had mixed reponses
ranging from answering machine and no reply, through
to abrupt, 'sorry we can't help, goodbye.'

Laptech recently undertook repairs to a journalist’s
laptop, she was so impressed with our service an
article was published in “Freelance News” September
2005 Edition, extract below:
….. And if your computer breaks down just
after the warranty expires, Laptech are ‘fairy
godmothers’.
One month after my expensive IBM’s backlight
failed, I was quoted around £400
to replace the screen – they don’t
stock backlights any more (having sold their laptop
division to a Chinese company – who were
no more helpful). Luckily an IBM mole was so disgusted
she gave me Latech’s tel. No (01252 640833).
They did have a backlight, and lots of other ‘out
of date’ spares – collected the machine,
repaired it and delivered it back, for about a
third of what IBM would have charged. Ask for Blake
or Lisa; they seem good old-fashioned caring people.
